In addition, Globe said it also agreed to support a recommendation to be submitted to Pres. Rodrigo Duterte for the issuance of a new Executive Order transferring the authority of the Patrol 117 Commission to a new legal entity to handle the 911 system.
Created in 2002, Patrol 117 is the country’s emergency hotline number for incidents like police assistance, fires, medical, calamities, and other emergencies. The system is supervised by the DILG.
Globe president and CEO Ernest Cu signed the agreement for Globe, while PLDT chair Manny V. Pangilinan signed the deal for PLDT.
Signatories on the government side included Deportment of Interior and Local Government (DILG) secretary Ismael “Mike” Sueno, Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) secretary Rodolfo Salalima, National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) chief Gamaliel Cordoba, among others. Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) secretary Ramon Lopez served as a witness.
