Special Action Force troopers will take over security posts at the New Bilibid Prison while its employees undergo retraining |
Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II said Bilibid personnel will undergo retraining and may be reassigned to other penal colonies while specialized cops are securing the national penitentiary.
Aguirre also said that Marines may replace SAF troopers after a couple of months to avoid familiarity in NBP.
Marine Major General Alexander Balutan is availing early retirement from military service, he will be serving as Bureau of Corrections director starting August 1. He is reportedly bringing active Marines in the NBP.
Based on the information the DOJ gathered, Aguirre earlier said, 75 percent of shabu being sold in the country are manufactured inside the NBP. Aguirre noted that the shabu rampantly proliferated in different parts of the country in the sense that the detained drug lords have access to communication outside of the NBP as they have their own signal boosters.
In order to stop the transactions of the detained drug lords at the NBP the DOJ is set to replace the signal jammers at the national penitentiary. Aguirre previously said that they had found a donor for the PhP10-million worth of jammers to be imported from Israel.
